Remains of Private Séan Rooney arrived in Casement Aerodrome Baldonnel

The Defence Forces can confirm that the remains of Private Sean Rooney arrived from Beirut Airport to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co. Dublin this morning at approx. 08.30 am.

Private Rooney was repatriated home from Lebanon by an Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft and was accompanied on this flight by a number of his colleagues from the 121 Infantry Battalion, including his company commander. 
 
The family were afforded private time with the remains in Baldonnel and a short prayer service was conducted before the remains departed Baldonnel with a Garda escort.
All media are reminded to please respect the privacy of the Rooney family at this incredibly difficult time.
 
Following the ceremony Private Rooneys remains will be escorted to the offices of the State Pathologist. Once an autopsy has been complete Private Rooneys remans will be released to the family.

The Defence Forces can confirm the details of the repatriation of Private Seán Rooney from Lebanon to Ireland. Private Seán Rooney's remains will be brought home on Sunday 18 December by the Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft, departing Beirut at 1600 hrs (local Beirut time). [Click for media details]
