The Defence Forces can confirm that the remains of Private Sean Rooney arrived from Beirut Airport to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co. Dublin this morning at approx. 08.30 am.

The Defence Forces can confirm the details of the repatriation of Private Seán Rooney from Lebanon to Ireland. Private Seán Rooney's remains will be brought home on Sunday 18 December by the Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft, departing Beirut at 1600 hrs (local Beirut time). [Click for media details]

Sean, you chose a career that you loved and were so very proud of. Most serving and retired members would happily say the same thing. We proudly served our country and were prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice in any event. You paid that sacrifice with your young life and in doing so have become immortalised along with the many other warriors who have lost their lives in the service of the State. You can stand down now soldier, you have done yourself and your country proud. To the Rooney family, his fiancee, his friends and colleagues, Sean will never be forgotten for his service and sacrifice.
