The Defence Forces can confirm that the remains of Private Sean Rooney arrived from Beirut Airport to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co. Dublin this morning at approx. 08.30 am.
Update - Repatriation of Pte Seán Rooney
The Defence Forces can confirm the details of the repatriation of Private Seán Rooney from Lebanon to Ireland. Private Seán Rooney's remains will be brought home on Sunday 18 December by the Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft, departing Beirut at 1600 hrs (local Beirut time). [Click for media details]

I'm a mum of a Defence Forces Soldier who has also served in Lebanon, and I was and am devastated for Sean's death and his family. I don't think il ever be at peace if my son ever decides to go Peace Keeping again. I feel utterly devastated, yet I never met Sean or his family, but cobsidering the pain this has caused me, I dread to think of his mum and family. I am very deeply sorry and sad for your loss, but hope you know Sean will always be with you. Physically he cannot be seen but Spiritually he will always be with you all, loving you. People say time heals, but it doesn't, you just get better at coping. Be kind to yourselves and take one day at a time, but please remember to continue your bond with Sean and include him in your life, as he will always be with you. Sending lots of love and hugs ❤️😇

I want to say words that mean something, that give some condolences, some comfort. But I can’t because I just feel saddened by the loss of someone fighting for peace and justice, risking their life to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Honourable.

I did not know Seán personally. I was overseas with him for just a few weeks at the beginning of the year, he always shared a sound hello. I am devastated for him and his family.
