The Defence Forces can confirm that the remains of Private Sean Rooney arrived from Beirut Airport to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co. Dublin this morning at approx. 08.30 am.

The Defence Forces can confirm the details of the repatriation of Private Seán Rooney from Lebanon to Ireland. Private Seán Rooney's remains will be brought home on Sunday 18 December by the Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft, departing Beirut at 1600 hrs (local Beirut time). [Click for media details]

Private Sean Rooney , Your ultimate sacrifice has upset me so much . I can’t stop thinking about you. You see my son served in the leb when he was 23. He drove those vehicles down those same rds as you did, and also took a wrong turn one day. And thankfully got out unscathed apart from getting a right bxxxxcking off and Officer. I’m so so sorry that you lost your life. I pray that your mother, fiancée and fellow Soldiers find comfort in the wonderful memories they have of a son, boyfriend and comrade. While I never knew Pte Sean personally, his loss came with great anger and sorrow. He died so that my country, Lebanon, can have a future. His sacrifice will never be forgotten, his service will always be cherished. Words are of little weight when tragedy strikes, but I should relay those of my kids, whom upon asking me why I was so concerned and why Pte Sean was here to start with, simply asked me to say thank you on their behalf. May he rest in eternal peace, he will not be forgotten
