The Defence Forces can confirm that the remains of Private Sean Rooney arrived from Beirut Airport to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co. Dublin this morning at approx. 08.30 am.

The Defence Forces can confirm the details of the repatriation of Private Seán Rooney from Lebanon to Ireland. Private Seán Rooney's remains will be brought home on Sunday 18 December by the Irish Air Corps CASA aircraft, departing Beirut at 1600 hrs (local Beirut time). [Click for media details]

To the family of Sean our brave fallen solider, our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you enter this new heartbreaking way of life without your precious Sean. It’s beyond heartbreaking and my family know only too well what your going through. My uncle was Kevin Mayne a part of the army ranger wing and lost his life in a tragic accident on the curragh aged only 27 years young. Our lives have never been the same but believe me in time your hearts will stop aching as much because of the pride yous carry for Sean. He was an amazing young man who dedicated his life to his country so bravely. God help you all in these dark moments but please know your nation are with you always. RIP Sean god love you ❤️
