Naval Service Detain Fishing Vessel

Yesterday afternoon the Naval Service vessel LÉ Samuel Beckett detained an Irish registered fishing vessel 80 nautical miles off the West coast of Ireland. The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

The vessel was escorted by the LÉ Samuel Beckett to Galway, and arrived alongside this morning. There it was handed over to An Garda­ Sí­ochána.

This is the first vessel detained by the Naval Service in 2019. The Defence Forces conducts at sea fishery inspections in line with a service level agreement between the Department of Defence and the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority, as part of its delivery of government services to the state.
