Army Bomb Disposal Team Make Safe a Device

Monday 10 June, 12.50pm

Early this morning, following a request from An Garda Síochána, an Army Bomb Disposal Team was tasked to investigate a suspect item in Ballina, Co. Mayo. The Team arrived on scene at 7.30am.

On arrival a cordon was established and nearby buildings evacuated for the duration of the operation. One (1) device was identified and made safe and has been removed for further examination. The scene was declared safe at 11.00am.

Should members of the public encounter suspicious items, or hazardous substances, they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána.

The Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of callouts that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
