This evening, following a request from An Garda Síochána, an Army Bomb Disposal Team was tasked at 6.15pm to investigate the scene of an exploded pipe bomb in Coolock. On arrival, the team conducted a post-blast analysis of the scene.
To ensure public safety a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. The scene was declared safe at 7.50pm.
Should members of the public encounter suspicious items, or hazardous substances, they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána.
The Defense Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of callouts that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
