Riding Officer Profiles

The Equitation School can can boast having many experienced and highly trained personel. These personnel are not only riders but personnel experienced in the field of equine management and care.

In this section we are going to concentrate on the Riding Officers of the Equitation School

Captain Geoffrey Curran

Captain Curran is from Fenar, co. Waterford. Geof attended CBS Tramore before joining the Cadet School in 1999 to begin his training as an Army Officer. Before joining the Defence Forces he competed in pony and horse showjumping classes at National Level. He also won a Spillers Golden Saddle Award in 1998. His other interests include soccer and hurling.

Capt Curran is the Senior Riding Officer in the Equitation School. He will be competing on the 2016 International Eventing circuit with the Irish bred horses River Derg, and Bishops Quarter. Capt Curran is also competing on the European Showjumping circuit & the National Grand Prix circuit with the following Irish bred horses; Ringwood Glen, Mullaghbane, Shannondale Rahona, Bonmahon Master Blue, Carnlea & Seapatrick.

Lt David Power

Lt Power is from Kilkenny City. David attended Kilkenny College before joining the Cadet School in 2008 to begin his training as an Army Officer. He competed at National level showjumping before joining the Defence Forces. His other interests include rugby and soccer.

Lt Power is competing on the 2016 National Grand Prix circuit and the International circuit with the following Irish bred horses; Drumiller Lough, Dollanstown, Galway Bay Liath, Dunganstown Boy, Templetouhy, Rolestown, Tullig Mor and Glengara Wood.

2/Lt Jennifer Larkin

2/Lt Jennifer Larkin is from Clonmel, Co.Tipperary. She attended Yeats College,Waterford and completed three years of Nutritional Science in UCC before joining the Defence Forces in 2013 to begin her training as an Army Officer.

Her previous experience includes competing at national level eventing and showjumping and she was placed in a Silver Spurs final in 2009. Jennifer’s other interests include horse racing and athletics.

Lt Charlene Kehoe

Lt Kehoe is from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. She attended Colaiste Bride Secondary School and graduated from Maynooth University with a Bachelors of Science Education. Before joining the Defence Forces in 2014, Lt Kehoe worked as a secondary school teacher.

Her previous equine experience includes competing at national level showjumping and eventing. Charlene’s other interests include hunting, running and camogie.
