The Technical Training School

THE TECHNICAL TRAINING SCHOOL

The Air Corps has operated out of Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel since April 1922. A growing requirement for highly trained aircraft technicians to maintain its expanding fleet brought about the opening of the Apprentice School in the air base and the commencement of the “boy apprenticeship scheme”. Many of those “boys” who began their aviation careers in this way now hold executive positions in civil aviation as well as in the industry generally.

Our Mission

To produce highly trained and multi-skilled technicians who can excel in a demanding military aviation environment. Students develop through a combination of formal teaching and practical theory. Our onsite workshops facilitate the broad spectrum of practical learning required in technical training. The school’s facilities boast the latest educational tools and software creating an optimum learning environment for staff and students alike.

Internationally Recognised Education

This training initiative has evolved through the years and included over 20 years cooperation with FAS as an approved Technical Training School. As of 2011, the TTS now offers a level 7 engineering degree in Aviation Technology through an affiliation with the Dublin Institute of Technology. This represents a significant leap forward for both the Air Corps and its future graduating students and ensures the continued high standards of education and training for tomorrows aviation technicians.

What We Cover

The primary focus of the TTS is the Bachelor of Engineering Technology Degree in Military Aviation Technology which is available to leaving certificate students who wish to join the Air Corps. The academic programme is of three years duration, two semesters per year, and entails military training to the level of three star Airman/Airwoman.
