The Defence Forces has a number of military museums and visitor centres around the various brigades and formations covering Defence Forces history and information.

The Defence Forces has a number of military museums and visitor centres around the various brigades and formations covering Defence Forces history and information. Some are only in their infancy such as the Curragh and the visitor centre in Cathal Brugha Barracks. 

Visitor Centre Cathal Brugha Barracks

On 5th May 2011 the Minister for Defence, Mr. Alan Shatter T.D., opened the new visitor centre in Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin. The idea behind this centre was to give visitors a better Idea of how the inhabitants of this logest lived-in barracks in Ireland have shaped the country.

The Curragh Military Museum

This beautiful Museum is housed in one of the original permanent buildings on the camp. The building was originally a stable during the British presence in the Curragh and in fact a section of the original floor and troughs have been retained in the museum. Great care has been taken to transform the building into a modern museum which will take the visitor on a historic journey through time.

Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa Museum

Orignally opened in 1985, the museum was rehoused and modernized to a professional standard in 2008.  The museum does not have a full time staff but has a few dedicated individuals who give freely of their time to cater for interested groups to come and experience the rich and varied story of over a hundred and thirty years in the life of a barracks.

Military Museum, Collins Barracks

The Military Museum, Collins Barracks, Cork, opened in 1985 and was situated in the Clock Tower Block. In 2005 the Museum was moved to the Old Guard Room, one of the oldest buildings in the barracks which is located just inside the old Main Gate.
