Appointment of new Defence Forces Deputy Chief of Staff Support (DCOS Sp), Major General Colm Ó Luasa

Major General Colm Ó Luasa is the Defence Forces Deputy Chief of Staff Support with effect from 08th July 2025, having been appointed by government. In this role Major General Ó Luasa is responsible for the Support Division of Óglaigh Na hÉireann, this includes J1 HRM branch, J4 Logistics, Transport Branch, Legal Services Branch, Engineers Branch, Ordnance Branch, Medical Branch, Military Police Branch and the Military Chaplaincy Service, CAOGA, Conciliation & Arbitration (Mil).

Major General Ó Luasa has over 39 years' service and has most recently served as the Director of the Transformation Management Office from May 2021 where he was responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Commission on the Defence Forces programme of projects. Major General Ó Luasa previously served as Director of Combat Support Branch and ISTAR along with establishing the Office of Reserve Affairs. He has served in a variety of roles across the Defence Forces as well as deployments with the United Nations, EU and NATO. His overseas experience includes deployments to Lebanon, East Timor, Liberia and Syria with the United Nations; to Kosovo with KFOR and as Liaison Officer to the EU Training Mission in Somalia.
Major General Ó Luasa, throughout his career has also served in the 4th Cavalry Squadron, the Army Ranger Wing, Strategic Planning Branch, the Training and Education directorate and as Military Assistant to the Chief Of Staff.
Major General Ó Luasa's educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce from NUIG, an MA in Leadership Management and Defence Studies from NUIM, the Common Security and Defence Policy High Level course and most recently a professional Diploma in Organisational Change and Transformation from the Smurfit Business School, UCD. Major General Ó Luasa is a graduate of the Defence Forces' Senior Command and Staff Course (2008).
Major General Ó Luasa is a native of Cork and currently lives in Kildare with his family. He is married to Ciara and they have four children, Pádraig, Tadgh, Cathal and Oisín.
