It was a very important and proud day for the members of the 61st Naval Cadet Class as they were awarded their Commissions in a ceremony in front of family, friends and members of the public. This represents the successful completion of almost two years of intensive and arduous military and nautical training. The class included natives of Cork, Cavan, Dublin and Kildare.

The five Cadets have completed a very challenging and rewarding course of Officer training which is comprised of a diverse selection of subjects such as navigation, seamanship, leadership, communications, marine engineering and naval warfare. The Cadets have also completed sea time, gaining experience on board the Naval Service fleet and commenced their first year of academic study for a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science at the National Maritime College of Ireland.

The Perpetual Trophy was awarded to Cadet Scully in recognition of his achievements as Best Cadet over the course of the two years training

Both An Tánaiste and the Chief of Staff congratulated the newly commissioned officers and wished them well in their upcoming career as Naval Officers of the Permanent Defence Forces.
