Army Bomb Disposal Teams conducted two separate call-outs in Dublin earlier today, following requests from An Garda Síochána.

The first request was in relation to a suspicious substance found in Dublin Airport.  The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 11.10am. The substance was destroyed in a secure location on site and the scene was declared safe at 1.30pm. A sample has been removed to a secure military installation for further examination.

The second request was in relation to old Commercial Explosives which were found in the vicinity of Sheriff Street. The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 2pm and to ensure public safety a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. The explosives were made safe at the scene and removed to a secure military installation for disposal. The scene was declared safe at 2.50pm.

Should members of the public encounter such munitions they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána.

The Defense Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of callouts that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
