Direct Entry Roles

What are Direct Entry roles?

Direct Entry roles are for new inductees who have a qualification and experience in a specialisation that is required for specific roles within the Defence Forces – Army, Navy and Air Corps. These specialisations may include the following:·      

  • Engineer – Marine, Electrical etc      
  • Mechanic·     
  • Chef       
  • Doctor      
  • Dentist and Dental Nurse     
  • Carpenter      
  • Electrician

What qualifications are required for Direct Entry induction into the Defence Forces?

What is the training for new Direct Entry personnel into the Defence Forces?

Training is focussed on practical experience to give the new entrant and insight into their specialisation within a military setting. It also focusses on the development of leadership, military skills and protocols.

What age do I have to be in order to be enlisted into the Permanent Defence Force?

Applicants for General Service Enlistment must be not less than 18 years of age and under 39 years of age on the date deemed as the closing date for applications.

Applicants for Air Corps Trainee Aircraft Technician must be not less than 18 years of age and under 29 years of age on the date deemed as the closing date for applications. 

Applicants for Cadetship must be not less than 18 years of age and under 39 years of age on the date deemed by the terms and conditions.
